Two pieces of USA film festival news this week!
The Alpha Invention has been selected for the Miami Independent Science-Fiction Film Festival (aka MiSciFi) and also New York's Philip K. Dick Film Festival. Both are big stops on the science-fiction film festival circuit so we're proud to be a part of them. Especially since Philip K. Dick is a direct inspiration for the film. More information on ticket availability will be posted here when it becomes available. See you soon Miami & NY! On the 4 December The Alpha Invention will finally be released on VOD services iTunes and Amazon as well as on Shorts TV in all available territories.
We've also decided to do a DVD release which will contain some extra goodies on there including the behind-the-scenes video, concept art and trailers. However, there is a problem with this idea - to sell DVDs in the UK you need a certificate from the BBFC something that costs the filmmakers quite a significant sum of money and for shorts, which are never made to make a profit, it just isn't feasible. So instead of selling the DVDs we're deciding to give them away on the 4 December! All you have to do is give us your name, address, email address and pay for the postage and packaging and we'll ship you a FREE copy of The Alpha Invention on DVD. The catch is that we can only do a limited release of one run so once they're gone that's it, I'm afraid. I know some people have been emailing us asking about the DVD so make sure you get in early to ensure you receive a copy! We're happy to announce that The Alpha Invention has been chosen as part of the official selection of the Colchester Film Festival that will take place from 19 - 24 October with our film screening on the Saturday 24 October.
Judging the shortlisted films will be Rebecca Johnson (Director, Honeytrap), Mick Audsley (Editor, Harry Potter and the Goblet Fire), Paul Fraser (Screenwriter, Dead Man's Shoes) and Laurie Rose (Director of Photography, Sightseers). Tickets will soon be available on their website and when they are we will, as always, post a link here and in the watch section of the site. See you in Essex! EDIT: Tickets now available here. The Alpha Invention has been chosen as part of the official selection at the SciFi Film Festival which will take place on 31 October in Sydney, Australia.
SciFi Film Festival is not only one of the biggest celebrations of science-fiction in Australia but also the world, showcasing some of the best film content to ever touch the genre, both historically and contemporary, so it is a great pleasure to be considered alongside all of the great material science-fiction has to offer. More information and a link to tickets will go up soon. We will post it on the Watch section of the site as soon as it is available. On the 24th August Raindance held a press conference to announce the 2015 line up and we're thrilled to hear that The Alpha Invention was part of that announcement!
Raindance is now in its 23rd year and was started by Elliot Grove as a platform for the best in independent and alternative films. In the past these have included Chan-wook Park's Old Boy, The Blair Witch Project, Nicolas Winding Refn's Pusher and both of Christopher Nolan's first two features, Following and Memento. It is now not only one of the biggest independent film festivals in Britain but also the world. The screening of The Alpha Invention will be held in the VUE cinema, Leicester Square, London. The exact date is TBC but the festival runs from 23 September - 4 October. Tickets will go on sale soon (EDIT: Confirmed now as 9 September) via the official Raindance website. So watch this or that space! EDIT: The screening of The Alpha Invention has been confirmed as Sunday 4 October at midday - Shorts Programme 21. EDIT 2: Tickets NOW AVAILABLE HERE. The Alpha Invention was written, shot and is set in London so it makes a lot of sense for the world premiere to be in London. And there isn't a more suitable festival to host this than the country's leading genre film festival, Film4 FrightFest.
FrightFest is one of the biggest horror film festivals in the world but since its debut in 2000 has spread into other forms of genre film such as fantasy and science-fiction. The Alpha Invention will be screening as part of the official selection on Saturday August 29th at The Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square. You can find further information and buy tickets at the Film4 FrightFest website. The Alpha Invention has been chosen as part of the official selection at this year's Dragon Con Film Festival which runs from 4 - 7 September.
Dragon Con runs every year in Atlanta, USA, where over 63,000 people descend on the city to the celebrate all things pop culture and see what's new to tickle their fanboy fancies. So it's an honour that some of the most hardcore sci-fi fans will get to watch The Alpha Invention at this year's event. A specific screening time and date will be available nearer the festival. For tickets, more info and a whole host of cool cosplay pictures go to www.dragoncon.org. ![]() The Alpha Invention has been selected as part of the official selection at the Shetland Screenplay Festival 2015 which will run from 28 August - 6 September. Screenplay is curated by renowned film critics Mark Kermode and Linda Ruth Williams. Past attendees have included Brian Cox, Jason Isaacs (hello!), Miranda Richardson, Jim Broadbent, Clio Barnard, Terence Davies, Julien Temple and, of course, Dr. Kermode's very own skiffle band, The Dodge Brothers.
